Budget Accommodation and Diving on Bunaken Island

Getting Here

Travelling to Bunaken is pretty easy nowadays. The island is just 45 minutes by boat from Manado on mainland Sulawesi where there is an international airport. We are happy to arrange for your transport from the airport, picking you up from arrivals and dropping you at the door of your room - just contact us to organise that for you. Or, you can go old-school and make it here under your own steam - here's some useful advice ...

By Plane

You can travel direct to Manado from Singapore with Silk Air or from Jakarta with many local airlines. It is also possible to fly in from Kuala Lumpur or Denpasar into Makassar (Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi) and then get a connecting flight the same day to Manado. There are also many flight options throughout Indonesia from all of the main cities to get to Manado.

By Car

Just grab one of many drivers vying for your money at the airport arrivals exit door. They will probably try to talk the price up, but you should pay something around 150,000 Rupiah. The journey time to the harbour is about an hour.

By Bus

Battle your way through the drivers looking for a fare and head just outside of the airport - from there you'll soon be able to pickup a bus (often called micros here) which is a small, cramped minibus built for half a dozen people. Take this as far as Pasar Dua (a small market area about halfway to Manado city centre), and then take another micro the rest of the way. Ask to be let out in the harbour area.

By Boat

If you have phone, Whatsapp or email, then contact us the day before you arrive and we will help you get here as cheaply as possible.

If you have no form of communication, then from the harbour you can charter a boat from the front of the Celebes Hotel directly to our resort - this normally costs around 350,000 Rupiah for the whole boat but the cost can be split between several travellers if you buddy up. Or, you can go by public boat from the public harbour (pelabuhan bersehati). There is just one public boat service per day except for Sundays (when there is none at all). The public boat always leaves Manado somewhere around 2 or 3pm. The public boat costs around 50,000 Rupiah per person, but will not drop you very close to the resort whereas a charter boat will.

Once on Bunaken, you will need to head to Panorama Backpackers located on Pantai Liang (Liang beach) where our staff will be happy to welcome you. If you catch the public boat and don't make it straight to the beach, then just ask around for an ojek (scooter) or bajai (scooter come pickup truck) and someone will certainly help you out in getting here.

* Be wary of scouts in the harbour area trying to shepherd you to other resorts, their aggressive tactics should tell you all you need to know about where they are trying to send you. One particular home stay (which actually isn't even a home stay) will virtually kidnap you if you're not on your guard.
